Dr. Wang's Involvements

Current Involvements

  • BCI-FES Phase 2 Clinical Trial
    • Sponsor: National Institutes of Health award 5R01HD095457-03
    • PI: An H. Do, MD; Zoran Nenadic, DSc; David J. Reinkensmeyer, PhD; Steven C. Cramer, MD
    • Areas: Stroke Rehabilitation
    • Hypothesis: Electrical co-stimulation of stroke-affected muscles during attempted dorsiflexion (as detected by BCI) improves post-stroke outcome
    • My role: I
      • wrote and execute the BCI treatment protocol;
      • provide real-time technical support during assessment and treatment;
      • improve and debug BCI embedded and GUI software;
      • set up all computers, fax machine, etc. used in the study;
      • implemented and maintain electronic data storage and regulatory compliance;
      • assist in the development of EMG-EEG-robotic assessment platform;
      • manage inventory/sterilization of EEG caps, wireless EMG sensors, and wireless motion capture system;
      • transport medical records and charts;
      • transport patients to and from assessment and treatment.
  • ECoG-based Implantable BCI
    • Sponsor: National Science Foundation awards 1446908 and 1646275
    • PI: Payam Heydari, PhD; An H. Do, MD; Zoran Nenadic, DSc; Charles Y. Liu, MD, PhD
    • Areas: Brain Implant, Lower Extremity Walking Prosthesis
    • Description: Developing an implantable BCI as a long-term prosthesis for individuals with spinal cord injury or other related illness to restore the ability to walk overground
    • My role: I
      • analyze and interpret ECoG signals, particularly movement-related high-gamma modulations for BCI decoding;
      • developed the embedded system hardware for the unidirectional BCI;
      • provide technical assistance for the forked bi-directional BCI (lead developer: Won Joon Sohn, PhD) with built-in sensory stimulation;
      • provide expertise in signal characteristics for the microchip development (NCIC);
      • faciliate technical integration between microchip development (NCIC) and clinical research, e.g. developing microcontroller communication prtocols.
  • Miscellaneous
    • CBMSPC Safety-On-Site Representative: Ensures compliance of occupational health and safety regulations for the laboratory.
    • CBMSPC Internal Network Administrator: Facilitates data availability for authorized lab members, collaborators, and the public.
    • CBMSPC Public Software Repository Maintainer: Maintains the lab Git repository.
